Penticton - Okanagan, B.C.

"A Place to Stay Forever!" is the city of Penticton's motto translated from "Snpinkten", the name of the large historic Okanagan First Nations settlement who lived on the east bank of the River. Today Penticton offers urban amenities in a relaxed, small town setting.

Known as the ideal summer holiday spot, Penticton is recognized as an internationally-renowned wine touring destination. Boutique wineries nestled among the 2,000 hectares of prime vineyards, embrace the old world traditions of touring and tasting countryside. Many have tasting rooms and dining patios easily accessed by hiking and biking trails. Want to learn more about viticulture (the science or practice of growing grape vines)  and enology (the scientific study of wine and wine making)? Stop by the BC Wine Information Centre for the best selection of VQA wines in the valley, friendly knowledgeable staff, free daily tastings and unique retail items.

If you think Penticton is all about wine, think again! With three local micro-breweries each producing a selection of ales, beer connoisseurs won't be disappointed. Take a brewery tour or plan to visit during the annual Okanagan Fest-of-Ale held each April. Enjoy over 75 different brews, live entertainment and exceptional food.

Beginning in May and lasting well into October visitors will find farmers and growers selling their best fruits and vegetables at produce stands and local markets throughout the valley. For a bit of rustic fun, visit roadside stands & u-pick orchards to savor the flavours and aromas of ripe, delectable fruits as fresh as they get.

The Okanagan School for the Arts is located here inviting exploration of the creative nature within ourselves, our natural world and our community. This area is ripe with history too and during the months of July and August the Downtown Penticton Association offers free heritage walking tours.

Outdoor activities provide something for all skill levels from swimming at the beach, hiking and biking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, water and snow skiing to golfing and leisure boating.
